Roland Ziss

German, urban economist, partner and Managing Director of SUM Consult, expert on housing policy and finance, institutional development and urban management with over 20 years of consulting experience. He has worked as an advisor to local and national governments in 24 countries. He participated as institutional, policy and financial expert in feasibility studies and the implementation of urban upgrading projects in Colombia, Namibia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Dominican Republic and Senegal. He advised on low-cost housing loan schemes in Ecuador, South Africa, Eritrea, Uruguay and Paraguay.

Joanna Kotowski-Ziss

German, partner of SUM Consult, a social and urban development expert with 20 years of experience in 19 different countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe, specialised in slum and squatter settlements, violence prevention, community development, youth promotion, as well as monitoring and evaluation systems. In Namibia, Eritrea, India, Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia and Kosovo, she guided interdisciplinary groups of local experts and conducted large socio-economic surveys. Currently she is the principal advisor to the Social Investment Fund Policy Programme in Bolivia.

Manuel Neumann

Carlos Ramírez Castro

Mexican, architect and urban planner, expert on infrastructure and low-cost housing, with more than 25 years professional experience in infrastructure development, settlement upgrading and urban project management. He has extensively participated in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of urban development projects of different types, with components of self-help construction, basic services and building material loans.

Juan Alberto Crispo Capurro

Swiss-Uruguayan, partner of SUM Consult from 1993 to 2008, an architect and urban planner with 30-years professional experience in the preparation and implementation of low-cost housing, settlement upgrading and urban development projects in 13 different countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He guided the SUM consulting teams in various feasibility studies to prepare German financial cooperation projects, including the large-scale informal settlement upgrading projects in Colombia and El Salvador. He worked as a resident adviser in the implementation of the UNDP and World Bank settlement upgrading projects in Haiti and Pakistan.

Eva Dick

German, urban sociologist, since 1998 an associate expert of SUM Consult, working in cooperation projects in the areas of community development, urban informal sector, youth promotion and violence prevention, including monitoring and evaluation and training programmes. She completed various assignments in South Africa, Kenya, Colombia, El Salvador, Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Daniel Förster

German, business economist, with work experience in Sierra Leone, Sudan and Zimbabwe. Since 2009, as junior technical adviser, he is supporting the implementation and impact assessment of both infrastructure and business development projects of the Pro-Poor Growth for Peace Consolidation Programme in Sierra Leone.

James Hokans

US American, housing economist, has more than 15 years of experience working in several African countries as an expert in housing policy and finance schemes, savings groups, cooperatives and NGOs. From 1996 to 2004 he was responsible as chief technical advisor for the implementation of the Rural Housing Loan Fund (RHLF) in South Africa. Previously he was based in Namibia as the Representative for Southern Africa of the Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF), an US based NGO.

Michael Kleinekathöfer

German, geographer and sociologist with over 20 years of experience as an expert in urban upgrading, community development, inter-institutional coordination as well as monitoring and evaluation. Since 2009 he is the resident adviser responsible for the implementation of the urban upgrading programme SUR de Convivencia in Bogotá in Colombia. Since 2001 he has worked as resident adviser responsible for the implementation of the urban upgrading programme SUR con Bogotá in Colombia. Previously he worked as resident adviser to an urban upgrading programme in the Dominican Republic and to various urban and municipal development projects in the north-east of Brazil.

Christian Müller

German, cultural economist, from 2003 to 2006 assistant manager of SUM Consult. Since 2007 project leader of the GTZ Rural Housing Reconstruction Capacity Building Programme in Pakistan. Specialised in violence prevention and conflict transformation. Field experience in youth and educational approaches in Bolivia, Honduras, Venezuela, India and Nigeria, and in violence prevention projects in South Africa and Sierra Leone.

Stephen Muthua

Kenyan, civil engineer & Development Consultant. Expert in planning and implementation of infrastructure, housing and urban management projects. Over 20 years experience in Kenya, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Since 2006, as regional engineer and since 2009 as chief technical adviser, he is responsible for the implementation of infrastructure projects and maintenance systems within the Pro-Poor Growth for Peace Consolidation Programme in Sierra Leone."

Bernd Quick

German, social development manager, with over ten years of experience as an expert in community development, training, monitoring systems, housing finance schemes and project management. He completed long term assignments for SUM Consult as resident adviser to the Low-cost Housing Programme II in Namibia and as target group specialist for the CREDIMAT Programme in Uruguay. 2001-2003 assistant manager of SUM Consult.

Sonja Spruit

Dutch, with current residence in Cairo, architect specialized in housing and urban development, associated expert of SUM Consult. After working as architect and researcher, she provides since 10 years consulting services in urban and regional planning, housing, reconstruction, social infrastructure projects, energy efficient and climate adapted architecture, with experience in 14 different countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. Inés Useche de Brill

Colombian, economist, expert for institutional development of civil society organisations, violence prevention and socio-economic research. In several Latin American countries she accomplished consultancies for international agencies (i.e. UNDP, UNESCO, IADB and PAHO). She was the Managing Director of the Federation of Colombian NGOs and advisor to the Board of Directors of the National Colombian Mortgage Bank (BCH).
